POLICY TITLE: STATION CLOTHING

REFERENCE: WAC 296-305-02201(6)

1.0 PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to provide direction to all members on poor thermal stability or poor flame resistance of personnel clothing.

2.0 DISTRICT TO EDUCATE FIREFIGHTERS ON CLOTHING

The District has no control over every day clothing that its’ firefighters may wear. It is important that the fire fighters can identify clothing that has poor thermal stability or poor resistance to fire. The District will educate firefighters in clothing unsafe in thermal stability or poor in flame resistance when engaged in or exposed to structural or wild land firefighters hazards.

3.0 NATURAL FIBERS CLOTHING OF CHOICE

Cotton or cotton blends, 100% natural fibers or blends that are principally natural fibers should be selected over fabrics that ignite easily, melt, drip, stick, to the skin, or cause burns to the wearer.

4.0 STATION CLOTHING NOT INTENDED FOR PRIMARY PROTECTION

Station clothing is not intended to be worn as primary protective clothing ensembles appropriate to the hazards and/or risks identified.
