POLICY TITLE: PRIVACY TRAINING

1.0 PURPOSE

To ensure that all members of Yakima County Fire District 12, including all employees, members, volunteers, students, and trainees who have access to patient information understand the District’s concern for the respect of patient privacy, and are trained in the District’s policies and procedures regarding Protected Health Information (PHI).

Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)

4.0 POLICY

4.1 All current members of Yakima County Fire District 12 will be required to undergo privacy training in accordance with the HIPAA Privacy Rule prior to the implementation date of the HIPAA Privacy Rule, which is April 14, 2003.

4.2 All new members will be required to undergo privacy training in accordance with the HIPAA Privacy Rule within a reasonable time upon association with the District, as scheduled by the Privacy Officer.

4.3 All members will be required to undergo privacy training in accordance with the HIPAA Privacy Rule within a reasonable time after there is a material change to the District’s policies and procedures on privacy practices.

4.3.1 Privacy training will be conducted by the Privacy Officer or his / her designee.

4.3.2 All attendees will receive copies of relevant YCFPD 12 policies and procedures regarding privacy.
